I am an expert and consultant on extremist groups, with a special focus on U.S. domestic militias and the related nostalgic movements commonly referred to as "right-wing" or "patriot" groups. My work spans the spectrum of violent extremism, including the investigation of nihilistic violent extremism (NVE). I regularly consult with practitioners, law enforcement agencies, technology companies, and academics around the globe. I have served as an expert consultant on federal hate crime and domestic terrorism trials and have testified before multiple committees of the U.S. Congress.
I am co-founder and Deputy Director of the Institute for Countering Digital Extremism (ICDE) which houses the Accelerationism Research Consortium (ARC). I previously served as Director of Research at Middlebury's Center for Terrorism Extremism and Counterterrorism (CTEC) and, before that, taught at Vanderbilt for 9 years.
